Assistant Principal
Mr. Portillo: Dedicated Educator and Advocate for Student Success
Mr. Portillo, a proud native of Honduras, began his career in education as an elementary school teacher after graduating from Escuela Normal Mixta Pedro Nufio. His passion for education led him to serve as an elementary school principal and as a Social Science teacher at the secondary level in his home country.
In 2006, Mr. Portillo moved to Dallas, Texas, where he continued his commitment to teaching and leadership. He started with Grand Prairie ISD as a teacher assistant before transitioning to Reconciliation Academy Charter School as a Bilingual teacher. At Reconciliation Academy, he has embraced multiple leadership roles, including Dean of Instruction, Testing Coordinator, and Bilingual/ESL Coordinator. Additionally, Mr. Portillo dedicated over a decade to Dallas ISD, serving as a 5th-grade bilingual teacher and as an assistant principal, further enriching his extensive educational experience.
Mr. Portillo holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science with an emphasis on secondary education from Universidad Pedagógica Nacional Francisco Morazán in Honduras. He has earned two master’s degrees from Texas A&M University-Commerce: one in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis on Bilingual Education and another in Educational Administration. Currently, he is pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology at Texas A&M University, reflecting his commitment to lifelong learning and academic excellence.
Certified as a Bilingual Generalist EC-6, Social Studies 4-8, and Principal EC-12, Mr. Portillo brings over 20 years of experience teaching at the elementary and secondary levels. His vast expertise and unwavering dedication to fostering student success make him a passionate advocate for empowering learners in the classroom and beyond.
