 Parent Involvement Policy

 

Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School administration and staff will work with community and parents to determine the needs of the school and students, by conducting a needs assessment in the fall.

 Parents, community businesses, and organizations will be asked to participate in SBDM & PTO.

 Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School will develop a Title One Parent Compact, which outlines the roles and responsibilities of the school/parent relationship.

 PTO meetings will be held on the third Thursday of each month. Information will be disseminated to assist parents on how to help their children at home.

 Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary will conduct two Parent Conference nights to inform parents on the progress of their children.

 

Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School administration and staff will communicate progress of students by sending a Wednesday Folder home with student work and important information.

 Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School administration and staff will promote the reading at home program to promote literacy.

 Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School administration and staff will recruit parents and community members to volunteer at school and will assist in the orientation and placement of volunteers.

 Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School administration and staff will recognize volunteers and community partners at a volunteer recognition luncheon.

 

Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School administration and staff will inform parents of enrollment procedures/policies and will conduct a PK-Kindergarten Round-up program for the 2014-2015 school year.

 

Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School administration and staff will advise parents and community members about the District's Youth and Family Resource Centers by providing brochures and giving information at the Student Support Meetings.

 Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School administration and staff send monthly calendars to parent to inform them about monthly activities and a quarterly newsletter. The school messenger program is a tool designed to call all the parents in English and Spanish by telephone regarding important events at the school.

 Parent training will take place throughout the school year to provide parent information on STAAR Strategies, and different related topics.

 Parent workshops will take place once a month to provide parents with Practical Parent Education (PPE) curriculum that gives parents an opportunity to share ideas, support each other, study current research in parenting practices, and work together as a team to find answers to their questions.
